Lida hails from the 1930s, designed by the renowned Czech designer Jindrich Halabala. Halabala had a significant influence on postwar design in former Czechoslovakia and his aesthetic drew from Czech cubism, Art Deco, and classic midcentury modernism. Halabala pieces are timeless and the quality of design shines through, they remain sought after to this day.
Lida was a collaboration between Stedsans and Evi Antonio, an artist who’s work draws heavily from her love of the natural world. Evi designed a bespoke fabric for Lida, inspired by one of her paintings, ‘Princelet’s Calypso’ 2020 which features the ‘Belenois Calypso’ butterfly. The butterfly motif is almost camouflaged in the fabric design with its urban and floral background.
We value the process of restoring and reimagining these original pieces of design and our vision was to bring Evi’s art to this process and together create a truly unique piece.
