A beautiful original midcentury Swedish handwoven Röllakan flatweave rug.
The flatweave technique used to make these röllakan rugs was a simplified version of a tapestry weave and the ideas of many of the well known makers echoed those of other Scandinavian midcentury designers, the wish to bring good design to the many and the idea that anyone should be able to afford a beautiful interior. These rugs became increasingly popular in the mid 20th Century.
Swedish flat weave patterns were generally simple geometric forms and often used a pastel colour palette, many design were inspired by the Swedish nature. This particular rug is a beautiful palette of browns and creams.
The rug is ‘sold as seen’ in its current vintage condition which is excellent, with no significant marks or areas of wear. We always do our best to accurately describe items in the photos and description but please do get in touch if you would like a more detailed condition report.
